The object recovered from a passenger bus in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj was a `time bomb`, police said. It could have been activated at any time and caused an explosion, according to the police.
The bomb disposal unit of the police from the capital came to the spot yesterday and defused it.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station Abu Bakkar Siddique said that the sleeping coach of Bengal Paribahan left for Cox`s Bazar from Gabtali in the capital last night. On the way, the car supervisor starts counting empty seats in the car. At that time, he saw the bomb-like object inside a bag on the back seat of the car. There was no passenger in that seat. The supervisor of the bus informed the driver of the bus immediately stopped the vehicle and informed the police.
He said that if the bomb exploded there was a risk of loss of life of the passengers.
"The police rushed to the spot and informed the bomb disposal unit to investigate the matter. They arrived at the spot and after testing the object they confirmed that it was a `time bomb`. If the bomb exploded, the bus would have caught fire and there was a risk of loss of life", added he.
